All I Need Is A Ball

Documentary, 17 min

Freestyle champion Palermo and her grassroots campaign to create a female league of freestylers in her native Spain.

Paloma is not only mentoring young women, but creating a community of female freestylers

Through her whole career, Paloma Pujol has been the only woman in Spain competing in freestyle football. In order to change this imbalance, she is mentoring young freestylers with the aim to start a separate female league. Elena Molina has followed this global superstar and her mentees making Spanish freestyle football history.

I always enjoy watching a badass woman beat men in something assumed to be a ”male activity”. Would I prefer activities to not be gendered and equality ruling the world? Absolutely. But this is a close second. We get to see the contrasting sides of Paloma’s life, from flashy TV appearances to bar work to physical therapy, and in between, she makes sure to encourage the next generation of female freestylers.

All I Need Is A Ball is an empowering short about breaking the glass ceiling and the power of sisterhood. Paloma is not only mentoring young women, but creating a community of female freestylers who support and root for each other – even when they are competing against one another.
